About me

Hi! I’m Lindsay, mum to an amazing 5 year old boy who has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I am also a military wife living my husband and son in Southern Italy.

I am currently taking a career break after 13 years of working as a Dietitian in the NHS. My professional background is in oncology, not diabetes — something I’m open about here — but becoming a parent to a child with Type 1 Diabetes has meant learning fast, asking a lot of questions, and re-entering the world of nutrition from a very personal place.

Food has always been central to my life, both professionally and at home, and living in Southern Italy has only deepened that love. This blog isn’t about having all the answers or offering clinical advice; it’s about sharing our real experience of navigating childhood Type 1 Diabetes alongside family life, frequent moves, and the unique challenges that come with military life. I write as a mum first, a dietitian second, and someone who believes that food should be enjoyed, not feared — even when life comes with blood glucose checks, carb counting and constant decision-making.

A quick note on my professional status: Due to our move abroad I am taking a career break and therefore not currently registered with the HCPC. For this reason, I am not writing this blog as a Registered Dietitian. However, I hope to use the knowledge and experience gained during my time in the NHS as a foundation to continue learning, reflecting, and improve in my understanding of nutrition and Type 1 Diabetes — always from both a professional and a personal perspective.
